Waiting on God

We do not know when God will arrive. It is up to us to be prepared. Everyone’s walk with God is different, personal, only to be lived by each individual. We have pastors, priests, bible study facilitators, authors and bloggers to help us along the way, but the journey is personal. Everyone has their own take, everyone sees things based on their own experiences and perspectives.

I want to be more like Jesus. I want to live the way that Jesus has taught us. I am not there. I have a long way to go, but I believe that we are on this Earth for one reason only and that is to spread the word of God.

God did not create us so that we could work ourselves to death. We are not here to earn more or less than everyone else. We are here for God. If we do not spread the word and help to wake the world up to Jesus, then we truly have no other purpose.

The Ten Virgins

Matthew 25:1-13

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Are you prepared? In this parable we find that the ten virgins gathered their lamps and went to wait for the arrival of the bridegroom. The wait was long and 5 of the ladies were prepared and 5 were not. When we studied this parable at church one of the obvious questions was why didn’t the ladies share their oil. The answer is because they should have been ready. No one knew how long it would be and every one should be prepared. If the 5 that were prepared had shared then they too may have run out of oil.

Jesus did not recognize those outside the door because they did not heed the instructions and they were not prepared. You can not call upon the lord only when you want something, you must call upon God all the time. There are many verses about being prepared in the Bible, they take you all over the place if you just search prepared.

Your relationship with God is up to you to prepare for. No one can do it for you. Your relationship with God is personal. You have been given the information, it is up to you to gather the necessary equipment, prepare, and be ready.

Some verses to think about:

Matthew 25:13

Matthew 24:42-44

Mark 13:32-33

Do you have someone that needs you to share the word of God with them? You will know when someone is ready to hear about God. Think about your own life and when you became ready to hear the word. Have you always belonged to some structured religion, going to church weekly, attending bible studies, belong to small groups? Or are you someone that was not always in a relationship with God and something happened to bring you to God? Whatever your story, you are here because God is important to you. I would love to hear your story and get all up In Your Faith. Leave a comment below.
